Review by Frederick Barton (Cybersecurity Editor)

Everyone has pictures with unwanted elements in it, regardless if it's an object or a person. Inpaint gives you the possibility of removing them, without leaving any visible traces behind. The best part is that the operation doesn't require advanced knowledge or skills. Even if you haven't used an image editor before, you will be able to master the application's controls and remove any unwanted objects, people, skin defects or scratches on a photo, from your digital images.

In terms of appearance, Inpaint looks like a stripped-down version of other advanced photo editors. Its user interface presents a small number of options, which are easy to locate and remember. Once you import a digital photo, a series of editing tools will show up on the left edge of the window, in addition to the zooming and rotating controls, located on a toolbar on the upper part.

To erase something in your picture, you have to draw a mask over it and click a button. It's that simple. The application will use the surrounding textures to replace the targeted item. A red mask needs to be drawn over the item you wish to remove. What's more, the application will show you what textures it will use, by placing a green mask over them.

Inpaint is quite flexible when it comes to replacing a texture with another. Besides drawing a red mask over an object you wish to remove, you can also draw and erase the green mask, if you wish to use or avoid specific textures in the image. It takes only a few seconds to replace the targeted textures. If you have selected the textures correctly, which shouldn't be too difficult, the unwanted items will disappear from your photo as if by magic.

Pros

The application makes it quite easy to remove any object from a picture. Its controls are intuitive and its functionality is straightforward. It lets you decide which textures to use when replacing others, which can be done without any difficulties.

Cons

There are no obvious issues to mention. With Inpaint, any unwanted elements can magically disappear from your photos.
